August 2022 marked the start of an updated track construction project. Most individuals familiar with Church Farm School would recognize the cinder track that many alumni ran on. The new track project was unanimously supported by the CFS administration and Board of Directors. Assistant Athletic Director, alumnus and coach Tom Johnstone ’09 explained the benefits of an updated track saying, “The track will be a huge boost to our athletes training, performance and health. Being able to run on the new surface compared to the old cinder track will reduce injuries and allow our guys to practice on a surface that prepares them for the tracks they will see in competition around the state.” The Church Farm School track team typically has 70 students participating annually. Since joining PIAA in the 2008-2009 school year, the track team has had 41 district champions and 23 state medalists with 11 runners continuing to run track at the collegiate level.
On Saturday, October 21, the new all-weather, six lane track and field was unveiled to the larger Church Farm School community as part of 2023 Family Visiting Day celebrations. The event was attended by both the current Church Farm community as well as alumni and friends of the school. A special recognition was given at the Track Dedication ceremony to Mr. N. Peter Hamiliton, who graciously helped fund the cost of the new scoreboard that accompanies the track, as well as alumnus Dr. John Grunwell ’60 (not in attendance). Board Vice Chair Vince Napoleon, senior leader and track star Dylan Lumumba ‘24 and Franky Mills ’12 – who competed in track at the collegiate level - each gave remarks about the significance of the new track and what it will help new athletes accomplish. The ceremony ended with a “first race” on the track completed by our three senior Church Farm School cross country athletes – Angel Asiamah, Jonathan Rivas and Eshtiyak Shahed.
